The
Vero Beach Book Center will present JoAnna O’Keefe
sharing from and about her new book “Morning’s Light:
Poems from my journal” at 2:30 PM, Tuesday May 1, 2007.
The Vero Beach Book Center is located at 2145 Indian River
Boulevard, telephone 772-569-2050. JoAnna is the author of
best selling “Come to the Garden” and “The Path Less
Taken,” and was
interviewed in a February 18, 2007 Florida Today article
by Maria Sonnenberg. Maria wrote that JoAnna “knows the
language of the soul.” In addition, Maria wrote that “The
simplicity of O'Keefe's poetry belies the poet's uncanny
ability to explore the secret chambers of our hearts and
find for us inspiration and renewal.” JoAnna was
also featured on the front page of the March 4 Hometown
News (Melbourne/Palm Bay editions). At the same time,
JoAnna’s dear friend Frances Howard hosted a
"Champagne & Poetry" party/book signing at
her lovely home in Suntree. Joanna’s busy schedule
includes a March 11 sisterhood luncheon at Temple Israel
sisterhood luncheon in Viera where she will be the guest
speaker.
Loretta
Schnitzius' "Fruit Salad" received the Brevard
Watercolor Society Award for its challenging composition.
In her February 27, 2007 Florida Today article with the
headline “There’s more to art than meets the eye,”
writer Pam Harbaugh interviewed artist and competition
juror Harry Messersmith who listed seven guidelines to use
when choosing fine art: “Harmony among the “three
C’s—Craftsmanship, composition and concept,”
“scale or understatement,” “mastery of technique and
interpretation,” “standout work,” “technically
weighted,” “finely hued assemblages,” and
“boldness.” Messersmith talked about Loretta’s
winning submission. "It's hard to pull (boldness)
off," Messersmith was quoted by Harbaugh. "I
think she did that well. The negative space becomes a
strong form in the composition to interplay with these
(fruit-filled) bowls."
