At Cape Canaveral Pen Women, our mission is to promote art and creativity in our community. We aim to provide a platform for emerging artists and offer opportunities for everyone to experience and appreciate the arts.
Each year, the Cape Canaveral Pen Women offer a monetary scholarship to a deserving young woman who is a high school senior in Brevard County in music, art and writing. Our ideal candidate has a desire to further her talents and go forward as an artist. The award rotates each year between the categories of Music, Art and Writing and is awarded at our spring meeting to the honored recipient and her guests.
The scholarship application period for 2024 has expired. We would like to thank all the applicants and we will be highlighting the winner in May.
The 2025 Scholarship information will be provided in January 2025. Watch for all the details coming soon.
The Cape Canaveral Pen Women's 2023 Scholarship recipient in Letters is Tiara Henry.
Ms. Henry is a delightful 17-year-old high school student who found a love for writing at the tender age of nine. Exploring the fandom culture of the Warriors children's book series expanded to essays, short stories, and more.
"Writing kept me afloat in an otherwise stressful and bleak environment," said Ms. Henry, referring to the pandemic shutdown of 2020.
The talented Ms. Henry is currently working on an original SciFi/fantasy novel, although her immediate focus is completing her college education, where she will major in Mathematics and minor in English/Creative Writing.
We at Cape Canaveral Pen Women loved her short story presented at our May meeting and can't wait to read her book!
The 2023 Cape Canaveral Pen Women scholarship will be awarded to Miss Colleen Jordan.
Colleen Jordan, who will graduate in the spring of 2023, attended Sebastian River High School, however, home-schooled her senior year.
She began her interest in music at a young age, eight years old in fact, when she attended the musical Annie. She spent most of that year signing the songs from either that musical or Phantom of the Opera. She has, over the years, expanded her musical talent to include playing the guitar, the piano and the 5-string banjo.
When she learned she was to be this year’s recipient, Colleen could barely contain her excitement, saying, “I was ecstatic! Not only because of the scholarship, but because the award came from a group of strong, talented, independent women.. I am truly honored.”
What are her future plans? She intends to apply to Julliard School of Music, as that has always been her dream, but there are other schools on the list. The final pick will be lucky to have her.
We, at Cape Canaveral Pen Women congratulate Colleen and wish her all the best as she reaches for her dreams!
